Underwater Epoxies Available thru Progressive Epoxy Polymers, Inc.

WELCOME TO THE MOST DIVERSIFIED SOURCE FOR UNDERWATER CURING EPOXIES ANYWHERE. NO WHERE ELSE CAN YOU FIND UNDERWATER EPOXIES FROM FOUR DIFFERENT FORMULATORS. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SETTLE FOR JUST ONE FORMULATOR'S VISION, YOU'RE LITERALLY MAKING ALL FOUR OF THEM COMPETE AGAINST EACH OTHER IN BOTH PERFORMANCE AND PRICE WHEN YOU SHOP WITH US!

A small number of two-part epoxy coatings have the unique feature of being able to be applied underwater. Common applications include coating piers, pilings, pools, tanks, etc. Most applications using these epoxies however are not applied underwater, but rather to damp or water saturated surfaces. Examples would include concrete waste water tanks (drained, but certainly saturated with water), and sweating pipes, vessels, and loading docks. In many areas of the globe, humidity levels are often well above 75% nearly all of the time. With such high moisture levels, most dry surface paints will have a much reduced surface bond which can result in premature blistering or coating failure. Simply put, moisture, in whatever form, is a primary reason for coating problems. Underwater (i.e. wet surface) epoxies avoid this area of concern. These epoxies can, of course, be used on dry surfaces much like any other coating. Besides those already mentioned, other places you are likely to find underwater epoxies include the inside and outside of ships, inside manholes, on cooling towers, piers and pilings, and tanks, pits and sumps of all kinds, as well as on floors with vapor transmission problems.

Underwater epoxies work by displacing the water between itself and the object surface. Air, like water, is considered a fluid too, albeit a much less dense one. Underwater coatings work the same way regular paints work on dry surfaces only instead of displacing the air, they displace the water. Few coatings work underwater, not because of the problem of displacing the water, but rather because of the affect of the water on the coating itself. The water can either act as a solvent or actually react with one or more parts of the coating and thereby interfering with the normal drying or curing of the coating. Underwater epoxy components are completely unaffected by moisture or water reacting normally whether water is present or not.

All underwater epoxies are not the same! Some manufactured outside the USA, contain a dangerous chemical known as
MDA. Others require heating to approximately 120 degrees F for proper application. Finally, a number of so-called underwater epoxies, typically some of the first underwater coatings, work more like bubble gum and must be quite literally pressed into the surface in order to stick, like bubble gum stuck to the bottom of a desktop. An 'old time' product known as "Splash Zone' (tm) is generally considered to be this kind of a product. Also, don't forget to check if the coating requires special haz-mat shipping which can often make shipping, especially in smaller amounts, difficult, expensive, or nearly impossible.

NOTE: all these products are more commonly used on dry surfaces (metal, concrete, fiberglass,

wood) than they are underwater.

NOTE: WE HAVE TESTED (AND IN SOME CASES ACTUALLY SOLD) SIMILAR EPOXY PRODUCTS. WE THINK WET/DRY 700 IS ONE OF THE BEST. IT IS AVAILABLE IN 1 QUART AND 1 GALLON UNITS, UNLIKE THE COMPETITION WHICH GENERALLY HAS UNIT SIZES NO SMALLER THAN 2 GALLONS. OUR SMALL SIZES (10 GALLON UNITS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE) PERMIT YOU TO TEST AND/OR COMPLETE SMALL PROJECTS WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT. WE HAVE SIMILAR SMALL TEST KIT SIZES OF MANY OF OUR OTHER EPOXIES AS WELL.

Wet/Dry 700 - This is the latest (post 2000) generation of underwater coatings. It is a Kevlar ® thickened epoxy. Mixable in temperatures down to approximately 50 - 55 degrees F. Sold in 1 gallon kits (0.5 gallon part A, 0.5 gallon part B) and 10 gallon kits.

"This product saved my boat a year ago (underwater leak)and I used it for several other projects. Time for more. Thanks." -- Gary 8/2010

Quick Fix 2300 - This is the latest generation of underwater coatings. Like the Wet Dry 700 above, it is a Kevlar ® thickened epoxy. This product has a mercaptan cure (slight rotten egg odor). It is a very fast epoxy (working time is but a few minutes - too fast for many applications). Great for really cold weather as low temps slow the reaction time, often making 'regular' epoxies too slow and fast epoxies more like 'regular' epoxies. Non-Hazmat so can be shipped by air. Can be resold and private labeled. Color: white. 1 to 1 mix ratio. Sold in 1 gallon kits (0.5 gallon part A, 0.5 gallon part B) and 10 gallon kits. Not recommended for structural repairs or emergency marine underwater repairs.

Produces a nearly smooth finish. Non-hazmat to ship and can be shipped worldwide. Can be resold and private labeled. Color: light gray. Mix ratio is 2 to 1 by volume. Sold in 1.5 - 2.0 gallon units and 15 - 20 gallon units.

Water Gard 300 - A rollable and brushable epoxy adduct with bio cycloaliphatic curing agent. Proven performer with history of successful industrial and immersion applications. Non-hazmat to ship. Can be exported outside the USA. Color white or light blue. When applied underwater leaves a tiny bit of residue on the water surface. 2 -1 mix ratio. Sold in 1.5 quart, 3 quart and 3 gallon kits.

This product is often used to repair chips etc in swimming pools, spas, etc. made from concrete, fiberglass, wood, steel, etc. It usually works but not always. Some concrete materials have additives in them that prevent underwater epoxies from sticking.

This happens maybe once a season... (mostly in commercial pools, only twice in residential pools in the many years we have sold this epoxy).

For example:

The product you shipped me "watergard 300" Did NOT work at all on my pool. I followed the mixing/application instructions exactly and the only place it "stuck" was to the previously painted surface... Not the bare concrete. It just "bubbled and lifted".

In saltwater marine environments 'micro-electric fields' can be present that will reject the epoxy (see http://www.epoxyproducts.com/charge4u.html)

Splash Zone A-788 - We have been as guilty as anyone with regards to making fun of the 'ORIGINAL" first generation underwater epoxy known as Splash Zone. It is hard to find, but many divers and marine repair companies still use it regularly, as they have for many, many years. Instead of denying the marketplace we decided to offer Splash Zone ourselves. Two part Splash Zone works sort of like bubble gum... 1:1 mix. Sold in 2 gallon kits and 4 oz kits.

Also known as 'green death" folks use it for engine cylinder head repair.

West Marine is perhaps the largest marine and boating supply store. They also sell Splash Zone™. Their price (07/16/08) is $154.99 for a 1/2 gallon.

Splash Zone has its own web page - CLICK HERE .

Epoxy Mortar Patch - We are pleased to introduce a low cost resin system that can be mixed with sand to for a patching epoxy 'cement' mortar for patching and filling underwater or on commercial floors. 10 pounds of sand (approx) per gallon of the epoxy will increase product volume by about 70 percent and add lots of strength and toughness. This product sets up quickly. Add your own sand (why pay $$ for a pail of sand with each unit of epoxy?). This epoxy cannot be shipped by air (UPS or motor freight only). Mostly used in the lower 48 states. Standard unit size is 1.5 gal kit. MORE OF A DAMP SURFACE REPAIR PRODUCT THAN AN UNDERWATER COATING.

Crack Coat™ :SEAM SEALER AND BEDDING EPOXY

Designed as a crack or seam sealer/filler for basements and marine applications this flexible epoxy also makes an excellent waterproof, permanent bedding compound. The dark gray epoxy contains high density fillers that enter and block crack and void spaces. Formulated for use in cool (55 degrees or above), damp environments. Its unique viscosity is ideal for crack filling - thick to the point of barely brushable, yet just thick enough to possibly use with a putty knife. Yes, it does work underwater too! MORE OF A DAMP SURFACE REPAIR PRODUCT THAN AN UNDERWATER COATING. This epoxy cannot be shipped by air (UPS or motor freight only) so mostly used in the lower 48 states.

We didn't know were to put this in our catalog so it's actually in Section A-Epoxy paint section instead of here in our C_Thickened epoxy section. CLICK HERE TO VISIT

Paul:

Please allow me to thank you for your recent help regarding an underwater epoxy repair to take place at one of the many tanks at the ZZZ State Aquarium in ZZZZ. The work turned out to be a stunning success!

After receiving your recommended epoxy for the job one day earlier than we had expected (it arrived Wednesday instead of Thursday), our team of four commercial divers quickly assembled and headed to the Aquarium. This gave us one more day to perform our work.

We had purchased enough epoxy from you to test prior to completing the job, which was a great idea. It took us several batches before we were able to create a perfect match to the concrete interior of the tank. Once this was done and the formula perfected, our end result was a virtually invisible repair that was simply shocking to Aquarium personnel. In fact, when the President of the corporation that owns the Aquarium saw our work, he was unable to find the repairs... A true testament to your excellent advice and your wonderful products!

After considering this all weekend, we have decided to keep it a proprietary secret how we managed to create such a visually perfect repair... However, your advice - and two "accidents" with the epoxy (not to mention a tremendous amount of physical labor and many hours under water) - was the true secret to the success of the job.

We are amazingly pleased with the outcome, as is our direct client, the ZZZ Aquarium, it's volunteers and employees, and even one of our co-contractors. Everyone was impressed. To the best of my knowledge, this has never been successfully done before. This puts Deep South Divers at a considerable competitive advantage when it comes to underwater cosmetic repairs of public aquariums, water parks, and the like. I am confident that we will be considered "the" experts on the underwater repairs of such facilities in the future.

Thank you very much! We definitely will be doing more business with you - and are looking forward to it!
