Your floor could be a 1- 7 coat system (different methods for applying the chips - usually
a 1- 4 coat system) Click here for our Garage
Coating page for details
Here are two actual examples (or Case Studies).
One is a two car garage coated with our epoxies by a "do it yourselfer" couple in California.
There are lots of other options they could have used, but their 'selection' is a typical one.
The second example used the same 'system' (there are many ways to do an epoxy floor, including several different
ways to use/apply colored chips)
Example two is farther down the page AND INCLUDES SOME PRICING/COST INFO.
BACK TO EXAMPLE ONE:
They ordered:
three 1.5 gal units of our light gray Industrial Floor Epoxy,

4 gallons of our Acrylic Poly UV (gloss) plus clearcoat (not for sale in California),
and 10 pounds of blended paint chips.
Application method was: one coat of epoxy, then 1 coat of the solvent based clear acrylic poly with the chips sprinkled
in and rolled back over, then a second coat of the acrylic poly.
Customer's email:
"As promised, here's a couple pictures of our new floor.
We love it!! My husband still has to do the teeny area that we ordered the extra quart for, but everything else
is done and it's great. Thank you so very much for being patient with us, and for helping whenever we needed it....
The only tip we can offer that someone may not have thought of already is how we prepped the floor prior to the
first coat. We took our industrial floor scrubber and attached 36 grit sanding discs to it and surfaced the whole
floor. That roughed it up pretty good... (The chips provided) plenty of texture and it's definitely non-slip.
Thanks again for all your help. We've gotten lots of compliments and will pass your name on to anyone that asks.
Take care!"
Janelle

EXAMPLE TWO
1000 SF garage (most 2 car garages are about 450-500sf)
1) Gray industrial floor epoxy base
2) clear poly middle coat with about 40 pounds of chips
3) clear poly sealing topcoat (same product as above) - not for sale in California
cost - shipping to MN - Oct 2010 - approx. $1700
POSSIBLE OPTIONS TO THIS PARTICULAR APPLICATION METHOD.
- Bio Vee Seal - This is an internal concrete sealer that leaves nothing on the surface. Used when moisture in the concrete is suspected it helps reduce the dampness and musty smell. Excess moisture moving thru the cement can cause coatings to pop off the cement.
- 12000 Degreaser - This is our degreaser and tire mark remover. We make no claims that if you use it you will not have problems or that some other degreaser isn't just as good. We like it and this customer actually purchased and used it too.
- Prep and Etch - This is a save way to 'etch' the concrete for better adhesion. Usually etching means using a strong and dangerous acid, but that is not the case with this product.
- Water Bond - Our water based floor epoxy. It can be used by itself (usually is) but can also be used as a primer under the Industrial Floor epoxy. Being water based it tends to soak into the cement a tiny bit (unlike the solvent free industrial floor epoxy) which helps produce a strong bonding surface.
- Epoxy Rollers - For the thickish Industrial Floor epoxy we recommend a short nap adhesive/epoxy roller. As coatings get thicker the nap gets shorter. Also regular rollers often lose some of their nap with the sticky, thick epoxies so sometimes you get a fuzzy floor.
- Low V floor clear epoxy - In many applications the chips go on to a coat of clear epoxy rather than a coat of the 2 part clear polyurethane. This results in a thicker coating and the chips better protected. The downside is that the epoxies yellow in sunlight so a clear UV blocker like our Acrylic UV plus is needed as a topcoat. Also, because the chips are in a thicker coating they will leave behind less texture (or non slip) making a smoother floor finish (a good or bad thing depending upon your point of view).
