Epoxies have a normal (recommended) application temperature range of about 50 - 85 degrees F. For some reason, few formulators bother with the extra hot or extra cold weather market. Thus, if you are doing a job, or project outside the 50 - 85 degree temperature range, our options are extremely limited. Here at Progressive Epoxy Polymers, Inc. we have sought our and/or developed several epoxies for both high and low temperature application.
COLD WEATHER
Below about 50 degrees F the chemical reaction need to cure the epoxy becomes very very slow (or might even almost stop). However, at low temperatures epoxies also become thicker. With many epoxies they become too thick to get out of the container and or to mix easily. Low temperature epoxies usually consist of a 'fast' curing agent, or in other words, an accelerator and accelerated curing agent. These 'fast' curing agents speed up the reaction so that at low temperatures the epoxy will cure at 'normal' time rates. At 'normal' temperatures these fast epoxies would get hard very quickly, probably having a pot life too short to use in most situations.

HOT WEATHER
At high temperatures the epoxy reaction happens must faster so working time (pot life and curing time) are much
faster. The attempt here is to slow down the reaction. This is harder to do then to speed up the reaction. One
main reason is that by slowing down the pot life you also slow down the curing time, possibly to an unacceptable
rate. Perhaps too, it is harder to slow down nature's rate for a chemical reaction then to speed it up.
PRODUCTS
All products listed below can be found in both our Industrial and Marine Web Sites.
Low Temp.
Corro Coat FC 2100 Fast - Our FAST version of our famous FC 2100 Kevlar (tm) and feldspar ceramic with a special low temp curing agent. Can be applied in dry, wet or submerged (underwater) conditions in temps down to about 40 degrees. Can also be used as a marine barrier coat. Link to this product page in our Industrial Catalog.
NOTE: our Quick Fix 2300 epoxy putty is one of those "5 minute" epoxies that can be applied underwater. In cold weather, that "5 minutes" stretches out to more like 20 or 30 or so minutes (normal epoxy times), hence it 'sort of' falls into the low temp epoxy products section although it wasn't intended to be. Link to this product page in our Industrial Catalog.
Basic No Blush (winter fast version) - a clear marine epoxy that is used for boatbuilding and repair, general purpose sealing and coating, and one stone/pebble walkways. Link to this product page in our Marine Catalog.
NEW Cold Coat - a dark green general purpose epoxy paint designed for cold weather applications. Semi thick, thin with solvent for 'brush grade' even in cold water. Can also be used as a marine barrier coat. Link to this product in our Marine Catalog --- Link to this product page in our Industrial Catalog.
Low Temp. - non epoxy
Our Aluthane (aluminum filled moisture cured urethane) is a one part product that can be applied in temperatures down to 40 degrees F. Click here for more info.
High Temp.
Basic No Blush (summer slow version) - a amber marine epoxy that is used for boatbuilding and repair, general purpose sealing and coating, and one stone/pebble walkways. Link to this product page in our Marine Catalog.
CM 15 - a ivory colored, solvent-based epoxy paint for general industrial and commercial use. The solvents give it a long pot-life, ideal for application in hot, steamy weather. Can also be used as a marine barrier coat. Link to this product page in our Industrial Catalog.

| Unlike our competitors, we like to develop a partnership with our customers by
turning them into educated buyers. That means discussing not just the benefits and plus of our epoxies but also
pointing out the weaknesses and possible problems. The other guys just don't do this. they either downplay or ignore
any bit of important information that might risk losing your business. We don't think that is right. It is certainly
not the fair and honest way to do business. Visit our competitors' sites and search for any information on: 1) amine blush, 2) shipping
restrictions, 3) nonyl phenol/enamel paint drying issues,
3) potlife issues, 4) price
gouging/markups, 5) UV yellowing, 6) formulated epoxies vs raw resin vendors,
7) customer comments
and feedback. We want to earn your business by being honest and upfront with you. You'll find our prices are good (too low to attrract distributors or agents), with honesty and service second to no one. |
